Avocado Socks – Free Knitting Pattern

Published by

So, when I first heard of these, I was like, “YES, THIS IS IT, THE GIFT FOR EVERYONE” because it made me giggle and they may be useful. The idea is that the avocado sock helps your avocado to ripen evenly. They need to be knit out of all wool yarn…. no idea why. I am not one to argue with the universes rules when it comes to avocados.

There are also 3 additional variations to this pattern over on my Ribblr page if you want access to them also. It’ll be a free pattern there.

There is also a YouTube tutorial over here.

Avocado Sock

Version 1: Knitted flat

Cast on 20 stitches on 4mm needles

  1. Knit
  2. Purl
  3. Knit front and back of each stitch (40 stitches)
  4. Purl
  5. Knit 1, Knit front and back – repeat (60 stitches)
  6. Purl

Continue until piece measures 12cm

Knit 1, purl 1 ribbing for 20 rows.

Cast off with a stretch bind off (Knit 2 together, place stitch back on left needle, knit 2 together etc). Fold in half and stitch up the side of the sock. Thread around the bottom of the sock and pull tight. Darn in your ends.

Plop in your green avocado and wait for it to ripen nicely.
