Easy Knitted Blanket – Free Knitting Pattern

Published by

on

This blanket can be made at any size, but at the given dimensions, it will work up to cover a Queen sized bed. (Not tucked in, but covered).

You will need:
– 9mm knitting needles – I used a circular with an 80cm cable.
– 32 balls of yarn – 50gm balls. I used Flight Merino which is 104m per ball.
– Darning needle

This is knit double stranded. I also used 4 different colours of yarn – 8 balls of each. See the video for more details.

Andalusian Stitch

This is a 4 row repeating pattern used for the centre of the blanket.

The Blanket

There is an interactive pattern tutorial for free here on Ribblr.

Cast on 153 stitches on 9mm needles, with your yarn double stranded.
Rows 1-12 – Knit all the stitches for a garter stitch border.

From Row 13, alternate the following rows until you have used up nearly all of your yarn. In the double stranding, roughly half way through the first ball, cut this off, and discard this half ball (unless you are using all the same colour through out). This now means that your balls will finish offset from each other. Knit through all 8 balls of colour 1 (except for the discarded half ball from earlier). Bring in colour 2, and knit alongside colour 1. See video for the full tutorial of how I did this. You will follow the following 4 row pattern until you join your last ball of yarn. At this point, finish with your last row being row 2.

Row 1: Knit across the whole row
Row 2: Knit 10, purl until the last 10 stitches, knit 10
Row 3: Knit the whole row
Row 4: Knit 10, (purl 3, knit 1)* repeat this bracketed section until 10 stitches remain, knit 10

When you join your last ball of yarn, finish up your pattern on the next Row 2 of the pattern.

Knit 12 rows.
Cast off.

Darn in your ends. Show off.
