This heart is easy to knit and a great canvas for simple embroidery.

You will need:
– 3.5mm knitting needles
– DK weight yarn (or any yarn and needle combination that matches) – 2 colours
– Scissors, stuffing, darning needle, stitch marker
Stuffed heart pattern
Top bumps – you will need 4 on the same needle.
Cast on 3 stitches.
- Knit front and back, knit front and back, knit 1 (5 stitches)
- Purl whole row
- K1, knit front and back, knit 2, knit front and back, knit 1 (7 stitches)
- Purl whole row
- K1, knit front and back, knit 4, knit front and back, knit 1 (9 stitches)
- Purl
- Cut yarn with a 10cm tail. Slide “bump” down to the far end of the needle. Start a new one. You will eventually have 4 “bumps” on the needle.

Slide all 4 sections together. You will now knit this as one.

- purl row
- knit row
- purl row. Count 18 stitches and place a stitch marker at this point. This is half way through your stitches.
- k1, SSK, knit to 3 before marker, k2tog, k1, slip marker, k1, ssk, knit to 3 before end, k2 tog, k1
- Purl row
- Repeat row 7 and 8 (above) until there are 8 stitches on the needle.
- SSK, k2tog, slip marker, ssk, k2tog
- Cut yarn with 25cm tail – thread the remaining stitches onto the yarn tail and pull tight.
- Fold in half and stitch up the side of the heart with the yarn tail. Stuff. Stitch closed.
Knit 2 flat hearts in a contrasting colour.
Flat heart
Top bumps – you will need 2 on the same needle.
Cast on 3 stitches.
- Knit front and back, knit front and back, knit 1 (5 stitches)
- Purl whole row
- K1, knit front and back, knit 2, knit front and back, knit 1 (7 stitches)
- Purl whole row
- Cut yarn with a 10cm tail. Slide “bump” down to the far end of the needle. Start a new one. You will have 2 “bumps” on the needle.
- Slide the 2 “bumps” together. Knit as one unit. Knit row
- Purl row
- Knit 1, SSK, to the last 3 stitches, k2tog, knit 1
- Purl row
- Repeat rows 8-9 until there are 4 stitches remaining on the needle
- Purl row
- SSK, k2tog
- Cut yarn with 25cm tail – thread the remaining stitches onto the yarn tail and pull tight.

Using the yarn tail from the contrast heart, stitch in the centre of the stuffed heart. Add a string to hang the heart from.
Add embroidery to the contrasting area.
