This is an easy knitting pattern for an adult beanie. This knits up quickly, and makes a great gift.

You will need:
– Chunky yarn – I used Southlander 12 ply (this is around a size 4 yarn according to this chart
– 5.5mm knitting needles
– scissors, darning needle, stitch marker
Band
Cast on 90 stitches.
Join in the round. Place stitch marker to mark the beginning and end of each row
Knit 1, Purl 1 – basic rib stitching – for 20 rows
Main body of the hat
Knit 6, purl 3 – repeat over the whole row.
Continue this pattern for 40 rows.
Decreasing for the crown
1. Knit 6, p1, p2tog
2. Knit 6, p2tog
3. K1, move stitch marker to this point as the new start of the row. Knit 5, k2 tog
4. Knit 4, k2tog
5. Knit 3, k2tog
6. Knit 2, k2tog
7. Knit 1, k2tog
8. K2 tog – repeat over the row.
Cut yarn with 10 cm tail remaining. Thread through remaining stitches and pull tight. Darn in your yarn tails.
