The Knit Guru

With Father’s Day just around the corner here in New Zealand, it is time to think of “what do you make the man who has everything?” – or at least, this is the struggle I have. Admittedly, the last time I made my dad one of these, I called it a whiskey cozy, and threw in a bottle of whiskey…. 10/10 favourite child at that moment.

Now, this pattern has a chart. This is an easy chart, but there are a few notes just incase you are new to reading charts. The “missing” squares do not exist – they are placeholders for stitches that have yet to be created…. so just skip over these gaps when you get to them as though they are not there. I promise you this will make sense.

Each of the dots is a purl stitch on the right side…. which makes them a knit stitch on the wrong side. You read the chart from right to left when on the right side, and left to right on the wrong side. Now, there is a video, so by all means, follow along if this doesn’t make sense in writing.

You will need:
– leftover yarn – you don’t need much – but wool, and DK weight.
– 4mm knitting needles (these are knit flat and seamed)
– darning needle and scissors

Short instructions:

Cast on 36 stitches.

Knit 2, purl 2 – repeat this ribbing pattern over 6 rows.

Follow the chart to increase, complete the DAD letters and increase again.

Finish with another Knit 2, purl 2 over 6 rows, and cast off in pattern.

Fold in half and seam the 2 sides together. Darn in your ends.
