Using colour 1 on 5.5mm needles, cast on 24 stitches.

This is an 8 row repeating pattern

1. Knit 4, purl 2 – repeat over the whole row
2. Knit 2, purl 4 – repeat over the whole row
3. As row 1
4. Purl whole row
5. Knit 1, (purl 2, knit 4) – repeat bracketed section to the last 3 stitches, knit 3
6. Purl 3, (knit 2, purl 4) – repeat bracket section to the last stitch, purl 1
7. As row 5
8. Purl whole row

Repeat these rows 3 times. Then complete rows 1-4. Cast off the work leaving a long yarn tail.
