I’m such a games fan, Olympics or Commonwealth, they are amazing. Have I mentioned I’ll be off to China soon…. And I am determined to swim in the competitors pool at the Water Cube in Beijing. Such a dream come true.
But here is Clyde, the mascot for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

You will need:
Size 4mm needles
Dk wool in red, green, yellow, blue, purple
Scraps of black and white yarn
2 goggle eyes
White felt
White and red cotton thread
Stuffing
Clyde – Commonwealth Games Mascot
Legs – make 2
Cast on 21 on 4mm needles in red
Stst 6 rows
K6, s1, k2tog, psso, s1, k2tog, psso, s1, k2tog, psso, k6
P6, s1, p2tog, psso, p6
Change to green
Stst 18 rows
Slide both legs together
Stst 4 rows.
Change to blue yarn.
Stst 16 rows
K11, k4 green, k11 blue
P11, p4 green, p11 blue
K10, k6 green, k10 blue
P9, p8 green, p9 blue
Change to green
K1, k1 front and back, over whole row.
Stst 16 rows
K3, k2 together over the whole row
Purl
K2, k2 together over the whole row
Purl
K1, k2 together over the whole row

Cut yarn, leaving 30cm, thread all stitches onto the yarn, pull to tighten
Stitch up the head and legs. Stuff his body, legs and feet. Close the back seam.
Pull a little of the knitting on his face and stitch it into a nose. Do the same on the sides for ears.
Arms – make 2
Cast on 16 in green

2 purl
3 knit

5 k1 front and back, knit 13, k1 front and back, k1

8 purl
9 k1 front and back, knit 15, k1 front and back, k1

17 knit 3, turn around s1, p2tog, psso, cut yarn and thread through remaining stitch, turn, knit to last 3 stitches, knit 3, turn around s1, p2tog, psso, cut yarn and thread through remaining stitch

19 knit 3, turn around s1, p2tog, psso, cut yarn and thread through remaining stitch, turn, knit to last 3 stitches, knit 3, turn around s1, p2tog, psso, cut yarn and thread through remaining stitch
20 purl
21 s1, k1 psso, knit to last 2, k2 tog
22 s1, p1 psso, purl to last 2, p2 tog
23 s1, k1 psso, knit to last 2, k2 tog
24 s1, p1 psso, purl to last 2, p2 tog

26 k2 tog, cut yarn, thread through remaining stitch
Cut yarn, thread stitches onto yarn and pull to tighten
Stitch up side and loosely stuff, attach to body.
Shorts
Cast on 18 in yellow.
Purl row 1
Knit row 2
Stst 10 rows. Slide onto end of needle.
Cast on another 18 in yellow.
Purl row 1
Knit row 2
Stst 10 rows.
Slide together
Stst 11 rows
Knit (creates ridges on the right side)
Purl
Knit
Cast off.
Stitch up the legs and back, slide onto doll, stitch on at waist.
Stitch on white crosses as per the image with a chain stitch on the singlet and the shorts.
Make a red G on a red circle of felt and stitch onto the chest.
Stitch on a red nose.
Using amigurumi hair technique, attach purple yarn as his hair.
Attach white yarn as laces to the red shoes.
Attach 2 eyes.
Sew on a smile and eyebrows in black. I used a piece of white felt for the teeth.
