Recently I was asked about the first birthday of the International Geek Girls Penpal Club, and I designed this hat. I call it a Lemon Meringue Pie…. Nom nom nom.
The hat itself is really simple. The strawberry is a little trickier.
You will need:
4mm knitting needles
5mm knitting needles
4 x 4mm double pointed needles
Yellow, white, red, and green yarn in DK (8ply)
Cast on 90 stitches in yellow on 4mm needles.
Rib (k2, p2) 13 rows.
(this is a wrong side facing row) Change to 5mm needles and purl 1 row
Knit 1, knit 1 front, yarn over needle, knit same stitch in the back. Turn. Purl 3. Turn, slip 1, k2 tog, psso. Repeat this pattern over the whole row. This makes the muffin top bit.
Stst 29 rows
K3, k2 tog, repeat to end of row
K2, k2 tog, repeat to end of row
K1, k2 tog, repeat to end of row
K2 tog over whole row
K2 tog over whole row.
Cut yarn with a 30cm tail. Thread remaining stitches onto the yarn and pull to tighten. Stitch up the side of the hat.
Followe these instructions to knit the strawberry. Stitch to top of hat.
Stitch sprinkles on the hat in red and yellow.
