Welcome to Day 5. Today we are making a simple bookmark – perfect for stocking stuffers, or to add a personal touch to a book gift, or with a gift card. This is a somewhat Scandi style design (Expect more Scandi inspired knitting projects into the new year).
You will need:
– Red DK Yarn
– White DK Yarn
– 4mm needles
– Darning needle
– Crochet hook (optional for tassels)
Cast on 12 stitches in red.
Knit 1, Purl 1 to the end.
Purl 1, Knit 1 to the end.
Repeat these 2 rows to the overall length you desire for the bookmark.
The tree
When you get to a point where you want your tree to begin, add in this chart in white. On the right side, knit all the white stitches. On the wrong side, purl all the white stitches. I don’t mind how the wrong side looks with carried yarn, but you can always stitch on a backing fabric if you don’t like this
Alternatively to knitting in the tree shape, you can just use the shape as a guide to overstitch the stitches in white yarn.
Complete 10 more rows when the tree is completed.
Cast off.
Darn in your tails and add tassels.
Using white yarn, overstitch white stitches to create snowflakes.
Before blocking the scarf bookmark.
