Festive pumpkin booties
With the change of season for most of my readers, Fall, or Autumn as we call it down here, is a big deal. Changing of the leaves, pumpkins, Halloween and foods I don’t understand (candy corn?)… I will be in the throws of daffodils, warmer days and lambs.
However, in preparation for those Fall events, and inevitable baby photoshoots, these are adorable Pumpkin booties. Perfect for up to a year old, these are more gorgeous than they are practical- for walking children they would be too slippery on the ground.
They are knit flat and then sewn up into the pumpkin shape.

You will need:
4mm straight needles
Orange DK (8 ply yarn)
Green DK (8 ply yarn) – you only need a small amount
Darning needle
Cast on 24 in orange
Knit 54 rows.
Cast off 11 stitches at the start of the row, then knit the remaining stitches on the row. This creates the flap on the bootie edge.
This will create the rounded section around the toes

Repeat the previous 8 rows 5 more times.
Cast off.
Stitch the cast on edge to the cast off edge. (These are different sizes, do not stretch the cast off edge.) This creates a side seam on the bootie.
Thread your yarn around the wobbly toe pieces. Pull this tight and stitch to the top of the bootie. Repeat this step on the bottom of the pumpkin toe shape.

These booties are very cute so I have knitted the pattern and now am trying to shape them into the booty. I am confused as to how you make the bottom of the booty. I’ve tried darning it from toe to heel and also from left side to right side. It just doesn’t seem to look like your photo. Can you give me any additional instructions?
Yes…. From memory I ran a running stitch along the toe portion, and then gathered it together by pulling the yarn tight…. and then basically had to “negotiate” the toe into shape. I am not sure if that helps….
This absolutely helps. I see what you are saying now that you’ve described the action further. Perhaps add that to the instructions? The gathered toe creates the foot bottom?
Yeah, it does.
No help at all.
I too can’t figure how to assemble. I after I bind off I have an L shaped piece. Which sides get sewn first? The striped piece to the initial cast on edge? Then how do I get the side fla pop s? Is something missing from the directions? R there 2 separate pieces? Help!!!!!
I’ll try to draw a diagram and upload it for you. It’s a bit of an origami job to sew together.
I’d really appreciate that
No worries – watch this space (well…. give me about 12 hours….)
Still can’t figure out assembly
