Happy new year! Today I went to see “Aquaman”. It was enjoyable. It had the possibility of being brilliant…. if it had a better script. But, it was fun and Momoa is brilliant… and the fish were awesome.
I’d like to pretend that this whale was inspired by this. But it wasn’t. Recently I started a theatre company, Hakura Puhoi Whakaari, the Grey Whale Theatre Company. So it was time to create a tiny whale as a planner pin. And he is cute.
You can make this using either DK yarn with 4mm needles, or as I did in the images, 4ply yarn with 2.5mm needles.
You will need:
- Yarn and needles as described – you need very little
- Darning needle
- Small amount of yarn
Cast on 8 stitches.
Knit 2 together, knit 4, knit 2 together. (6 stitches)
Purl
Knit 2 together, knit 2, knit 2 together (4 stitches)
Purl
Knit 2 together, insert needle into the centre of row 1, yarn around needle and pull through tightly to create a stitch, knit 2 together (3 stitches)

Knit 1, make 1, knit to the last stitch, make 1, knit 1 (5 stitches)

Knit 1, make 1, knit to the last stitch, make 1, knit 1 (7 stitches)

Knit 1, make 1, knit to the last stitch, make 1, knit 1 (9 stitches)

Cut yarn, thread through remaining stitches, pull tight. Fold in half, add a tiny piece of stuffing, stitch up the seam. Sew or stitch on eyes.
