Many moons ago I released this pattern for a pokeball hat. However it has been long in need of an update. And finally it is here. Given that Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl will release shortly, it seemed a great time to post this update. This hat will fit a teen or a small adult. To make it larger, add extra white and red rows before and after the centre detail, and additional stitches in your cast on.
You will need:
– White DK yarn
– Red DK yarn
– Black DK yarn
– 4mm knitting needles
– Darning needle
Cast on 100 stitches in white.
Rib 20 rows using a Knit 1, Purl 1 repeating pattern over all the rows.
Knit 5 rows in white.
Now follow the colours and stitches on the chart. When your colours meet make sure you twist the yarns around each other so that the sections are secure.
When you have completed the red chart section, knit 5 more rows in red.
Then begins the decreasing of the top of the hat.
Knit 3, Knit 2 together – repeat over the whole row.
Knit 1 row.
Knit 2, Knit 2 together – repeat over the whole row.
Knit 1 row.
Knit 1 Knit 2 together – repeat over the whole row.
Knit 1 row.
Knit 2 together – repeat over the whole row.
Knit 1 row.
Knit 2 together – repeat over the whole row.
Cut yarn with 30 cm remaining. Thread onto the darning needle, slip all the remaining stitches onto this yarn and pull tight to close the top of the hat. Darn in your yarn tails.
